We've been given an old wreck of a Beetle cat. This boat is a perfect teaching tool. Every part needs replacement, so all aspects of wooden boat building are involved.
Volunteers constructed a plastic sheeted barn so they can work on the boat in inclement weather. This initial structure has been added to twice, given a fuill wood floor, and equipped with a complete set of hand and power tools needed for boat building, including a steam box and a forge.

And the boat, with a scraped and sanded hull, is moved into the new barn addition. By now a new stem, new ribs, and new planking have been installed.
Canvas is applied to the decking. The Beetle Cat begins to look like a newly built boat with new paint and varnish.
The railing is replaced, as are all the necessary hardware and a new centerboard.
Detail work continues along with a whole range of activities related to wooden boat building and design, such as half hull making and lofting.
Work can begin on the canoe (background) while the Beetle cat is still in progress. New ribs, new rail, new seats, as well as a wholly new canvas cover are part of the canoe building effort.
